Vita

Alexander Mauz received both his B.Sc. in Biogeosciences (2018) and M.Sc. in Chemical Biology (2021) at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Germany. The Master´s Thesis was a part of a project at the Synthetic Microbiology Group (Dr. Gerald Lackner) of the Leibniz Institute of Natural Product Research and Infection Biology- Hans Knöll Institute to develop a therapeutic microbe. In his Thesis, he developed several protein-based antifungal “weapon systems” for use in a therapeutic microbe. After his graduation, he started his PhD at the TUM under the Supervision of Prof. Dr. Costa. His research activity focuses on understanding protein-polymer interaction in bio-phosphors, the impact of additives on device performance, understanding of protein deactivation under heat and irradiation stress, enhancing device performance, and redesigning and reengineering of fluorescent proteins for use in bio-phosphors.
