In collaboration with Bonifazi Group (University of Vienna), this work introduces cyano borazine molecules as metal-free photosensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells. The study addresses the need for alternatives to costly and inadequate rare-earth metal photosensitizers. A straightforward synthesis of tetra-cyano-based photosensitizers, incorporating borazine moieties, enhances light-harvesting capacity and electron-donating properties. The device performance surpasses previous device performance using the same anchoring group, marking the first implementation of BN moieties in dye-sensitized solar cells and offering a novel metal-free sensitizer concept.
