Together with the group of Prof. Milan Kivala at U. Heidelberg, we have demonstrated a π-expanded X-type double [5]helicene comprising dihydro-pyracylene moieties as chiral emitter and multistage redox amphoter. This family shows strongly bathochromically shifted UV/vis absorption and emission bands with small Stokes shift and considerable photoluminescence quantum yield and circular polarized luminescence response including multiple reversible redox events.
