Beacon of light in the darkness of light-emitting electrochemical cells?

[Ag(IPr)(3-Medpa)][PF6] vs [Cu(IPr)(3-Medpa)][PF6]. Temperature-dependent steady-state, time-resolved emission experiments, and computational calculations have been performed to understand the impact of nature of the ion metal center on the photophysical and electroluminescent properties, revealing i) a distinct emission behavior such as fluorescence (Ag) vs. thermally activated delay fluorescence (Cu), ii) an unforeseen crystallinity-dependent emission in Ag-complex that leads to either smooth and non-emissive thin-films or phase aggregated and emissive thin-films, and iii) Ag-complex based LECs with an stable electrical behavior over 100 h but no blue light as the Cu-complex.

Such a simple change in the complex architecture with dramatic impact in all aspects. We are learning a lot with these compounds.
