We welcome our new visiting professor – Prof. Dr. Ken Albrecht
We are all very happy to host Prof. Dr. Ken Albrecht over this year to reinforce research, mentoring; and teaching.
We welcome our new team member Dr. Olivia Amargós Reyes
We are very pleased to welcome our new team member Dr. Olivia Amargós Reyes. Her research work as a EuroTech Postdoc Fellow at our Chair will be focuses on exploiting ionic junctions in large area lighting and photovoltaic devices.
Check out our last paper on Advanced Functional Material!
Congratulations to Sara for her last contribution ´´Designing Artificial Fluorescent Proteins: Squaraine-LmrR Biophosphors for High Performance Deep-Red Biohybrid Light Emitting Diodes´´, about a new protein-dye system for long-living and highly efficient deep-red Bio-HLEDs. Check it out here: https://doi.org/10.1002/adfm.202111381
Congratulations to Luca for the new contribution published on Advanced Materials!
Taking advantage of multivariate analysis to understand how to design [Cu(N^N)(P^P)]+ for the first blue/white light emitting electrochemical cells that were elusive over the last 15 years!
Great honor to participate as plenary speaker in the Italian Photochemistry Meeting 2021 held in Torino!!!
Rubén has discussed our recent results in bio-hybrid light-emitting diodes and solar cells in the GIF conference https://www.moflabunito.com/gif2021.
Fruitful scientific discussions and new collaborations.
Special thanks to Nadia, Andrea, Matteo, Lucia, Polyssena, Marco, Ivana for organizing this excellent conference!!
Article selected for the prestigious Horizons Community Board collection!!!
Our recent work entitled ‘Biogenic fluorescent protein-silk fibroin phosphors for high performing light-emitting diodes’ (Mater. Horiz., 2020, 7, 1790-1800) has been specially selected by the Materials Horizons and Nanoscale Horizons Community Boards to be featured in a Horizons Community Board collection focusing on optical and photonic materials and devices.
This is a great honor that highlights the high level of interest and quality of our work!

Congrats to JP for his new publication in Nature Biotech!!
Nature Biotechnology features JP’s work developed at the Cell engineering group (Helmholtz Zentrum München). This paper shows the engineering of a new family of photo-switchable protein sensors for applications in super-resolution fluorescence microscopy and optoacoustic imaging methods. Please enjoy here a less-technical explanation on the article by JP for the general public.
Congratulations to Sara for winning the Best Presentation Award at E-MRS Spring Meeting 2021!
Sara was awarded the Best Presentation Award for her talk “Towards highly stable eco-friendly squaraine-protein phosphors for Bio-HLEDs”, held on the 3rd of June 2021 at EMRS Spring 2021 Meeting.
Congratulations to Elisa and Luca for the new paper!
Congratulations to Elisa and Luca for their last contribution on novel red emitting Copper (I) complexes, toward sustainable white emitting lighting sources. This is a great piece of the great collaboration with Prof. Galliard from U. Caen. The advance article is freely available in Advanced Optical Materials.
Special Issue in Advanced Energy Materials about Recent Advances Towards Sustainable Materials and Processes for Energy Conversion and Storage
Together with Prof. De la Peña O’Shea (IMDEA Energy) we have settled a special issue focused on Sustainable Materials and Processes for Energy Conversion and Storage.
This special issue highlights: i) the design/use of multifunctional hybrid systems as operational compounds/components in solar fuels, air purification, thermoelectric, water splitting, CO2 reduction, NH3 production, photovoltaic, storage, etc. ii) the development of novel heterojunctions for the smart management of photons and carriers, and iii) the distinctive ecological features of bio-compounds for energy technologies.
These contributions honor our efforts towards material and design models of sustainability without losing device performance for energy applications.
