B-day of the Chair
Since tradition is all important, we celebrated our b-day chair with a traditional Bavarian breakfast, pool (enjoying the day in the sun, playing Volleyball and swimming) and late BBQ with German lectures based on traditional songs, like the “Fliegerlied”.

Visiting U. La Rioja: Twice is sometimes better than one
Last week Mattia and Rubén attended to the workshop on Biogenic Materials and Technologies organized by our common friend Prof. Jesús Berenguer at the U. La Rioja. It was a great experience to discuss science with the excellent groups and to organize future actions together!

New contribution about our red-emitting silver(I) complex for LECs is out now
Find out more about Sophia’s and Luca’s latest contribution “Dual-Phosphorescent Heteroleptic Silver(I) Complex in Long-Lasting Red Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells” on Advanced Optical Materials. We report a new complex design strategy towards a dual-phosphorescent, red-emitting silver(I) complex with high electrochemical stability, resulting in long-lasting red light-emitting electrochemical cells.

Check out the film of the RSC about the Horizon Prize on Cu-Lighting 2022!
We and all the collaborators/friends are very grateful for the Royal Society of Chemistry for this honor!
It highlights the most important aspects of our joint effort to solve a 25 years-old challenges.

New paper out on Advanced Functional Materials about phosphors based on phycobiliproteins
Read more about Marco´s latest contribution “Fully Biogenic Near-Infrared Phosphors: Phycobiliproteins and Cellulose at Force Toward Highly Efficient and Stable Bio-Hybrid Light-Emitting Diodes” on Advanced Functional Materials. The paper shows the stabilization of the phycobiliprotein smURFP in a novel cellulose-based matrix, achieving stable Near-Infrared Bio-HLEDs.

On the race to WSS100 !!
We were recently honored by the Werner Siemens Foundation (WSS) “Project of the Century” competition winning the first step WSS research prize of 1 million Swiss francs to prepare us for the competition of a research center for 100 millions action. It is a pleasure to participate in this consortium led by Prof. Asseng focused on agricultural research with the ambitious goal on “Revolution of Food Production” where our bio-hybrid lighting and photovoltaic systems will play a major role.
Research Overview – Dr. Mattia Nieddu
Dr. Mattia Nieddu present the findings of his Marie Curie-funded research on the new generation of FP silica-based Bio-HLED technology through an informative video.

New paper out on Advanced Science about stable Core-shell-structured Fluorescent Protein Nanoparticles for Lighting!
Read more about Mattia’s latest contribution ´´ Core-shell-structured Fluorescent Protein Nanoparticles: New Paradigm Towards Zero-thermal-quenching in High-power Bio-hybrid Light-emitting Diodes´´ on Advanced Science. Here, we describe how to stabilize green-emitting proteins (sfGFP) in a novel silica nanostructure towards long-living green-emitting Bio-HLEDs.

Catching attention!
The Central European Research Infrastructure Consortium (CERIC) has recently highlighted our work published in Angewandte together with the group of Prof. Bonifazi.
Many thanks for CERIC for this excellent highlight! We will keep producing excellent results!
